From CENS Urban Sensing

Andrew was nice enough to offer to o take notes, but we have undergrads…

Stephen – up to date traffic info, use gps continuously while someone is traveling in cars, calculate velocity
Sasank – figuring out ways to characterize greatest eating locations, cashiers wear cell phones, and measure noise and velocity “cash drawer opening noise” as metric or other common $$ sounds
David – TV rating surveys, monitoring users' behavior and favorite shows through sound patterns matching. (channel detection might already being researched) Andrew heard some companies embed sound signals in channels to assist in these types of suveys
Jeff – # of liquor stores ratio to banks can tell you something about the neighborhood, getting kids to document their neighborhood
Nicolai – location stick Japan made that uses GPS and points to the beacon it is tracking, something similar
Eric – take data on how far people are willing to travel to eat, as opposed to concerts, etc. many factors such as area, type of car, cities
Robert – expanding on previous idea someone mentioned finding the perfect environment to study, package sound level, lighting, gps data, wifi detection
Eitan – get people to photograph attractive places? Couldn’t hear him on phone
Jason – Realtime traffic monitor, if you’re not moving for some time, it’ll send a message to other phones to let them know “traffic isn’t moving” etc. Peer to peer traffic monitoring
Vids – extension to Night clubs idea, you can have cell phone take a picture and people online can decide what your description of the night club is

Diet Campaign

  • No one has run it pretty much, or hard to tell who has run it
  • 5 people have set up table
  • Elisa slogged stuff last Sat, didn’t show up in table. August said script wasn’t set up then
  • We just need people to run it, this week please run it.

Sound Level Campaign

  • For pilot, upload actual sound files, upload to other table (decibel tables)
  • anyone has other privacy suggestions, please let Stephen or Elisa know
  • wants people to enable GPS, so they can correlate later
  • Vids and Burke has meeting about security with Sensorbase
  • Java supports SSL, Sound level campaign should try working with SSL
  • Sensorbase should support it soon (next Thursday?)
  • Sensorbase will continue to support Http for those that haven’t moved yet
  • they will look into row*level permissions, cell*level still being discussed
  • Do we want to do another campaing or rerun one for Spring break?
  • Didn’t get good results last holiday campaign…
  • Maybe focus on pitching a campaign for people in different locations next week (people are going to Taiwan, Bay area, other places too)
  • Privacy auditing – mostly just looking at stuff architecturally, try to point out things and ask the campaign leaders questions, not everything has to be handled (might not even be possible) More for getting used to doing it, etc.

Open ID

Savane

  • its up and running
  • Basically it’s a nice web interface that helps you manage projects
  • includes SVN repository creation/ viewing through web interface
  • post bugs, bug tracking
  • check out the wiki and documentation for other details
  • see slides on the wiki

Code Signing and Nightly builds

  • what do people need
  • people say they don’t need nightly builds, most of the code is not working currently anyways
  • maybe display errors from compiling on the websites
  • definitely code*signing is needed (for Java too)

Future Webserver features

  • Sasank will make a homepage
  • Who will do blogging? Should be good for announcements
  • Chronological order is definitely useful as compared to the current Wiki
  • Blogs for campaigns would be useful
  • Automatic Backups for the SVN stuff are very important
