Human Subjects Research Presentation
Presented by Professor Christine Borgman:
Things to look into:
- Privacy enhancing technology (http://www.cdt.org/privacy/pet/)
- Association of Internet Researchers (http://aoir.org/)
- CENS project falls under both IRB and OECD
Questions/Considerations in CENS projects
- Are people informed of the implications of participating in the project.
- IRB might require to wear “you are being recorded” sign.
- How do we relate to IRB if we are only interested in the technology behind the project?
- Need waivers per sub-project.
- Some projects can be pilots where IRB would be irrelevant.
Spring Break Campaigns
- Sasank: Really cool graffiti campaign
- Vids: Google maps of location trace, with timestamp every minute
- Elisa: Keypad inputs estimating how many people are out.
- Jeff: Liquor stores and banks
To do
- Need to implement phone capability to tag GPS location with picture taking.
- Nicolai and August: Organize the spring break campaign.
Sound level campaign
- Delayed a week
- HTTPS uploading trouble
- No location data
- Turn on outside, off inside
- What should the Orientation of the phone be? - Around neck? Only out when recording is happening?
- How much button pressing is okay? - More development time needed to minimize button pressing
Next week
- Privacy protection (starting with GeoPriv to get initial set of concerns)
- Potential IRB speaker
