IF YOU PLAN TO PARTICIPATE IN THE SOUND LEVEL CAMPAIGN ON THURSDAY 3/15/07
[edit]
Before Thursday 3/15
- Download Sound_Level_Campaign.jar, install on phone.
- Go to Tools > App. mgr on phone and check/change settings so that all options for the program are set to "always allowed", "ask first time only", or most relaxed setting
- or at LEAST, set "Positioning" and "Multimedia" to "ask first time only"
- Go to My own > Sound_Level_Campaign. Open app, enter your name as username.
- [jb] Do we need to use usernames or for privacy can we just pick a number? (Or get assigned a number?)
- [ey] usernames aren't necessary but i thought it would just be a good way to keep track of who is running the campaign and who to bug to do the campaign still. And a temporary idea of what data is from what location on campus unless it is mashed up against a map.
- Go outside sometime, turn on GPS. After GPS connects, start program. Select "Record". Select "yes" to allow application to (1) use positioning data and (2) camera or audio apps. (Now should start collecting sound samples).
- Should take 1 sec samples, every 5 seconds
- (Please note how long it takes for your particular GPS takes to connect and email me with an approximate time)
- Go to Options > Upload Screen. Select Options > "* Enable Upload". Select "yes" to use the network to send/receive data. After available access points come up, choose any of them (I usually choose my first one, Cingular MMS).
- Verify that about 10 queued records are sent. Go back to Meter Screen, and select Action: "Stop". When there are zero records left queued, exit application.
- Send Elisa (elisay@ucla.edu) email saying that you completed the test and how long it took your GPS to connect, and she will email back confirmation that data was received in Sensorbase.

BRING CHARGED PHONE AND GPS!
- Meet at CENS main conference room at NOON.
- Distribute locations to go to among people present.
- Turn on GPS as soon as outside
- After everyone's GPS has acquired location, go to assigned destination. Set phone down with mic facing up on a level surface, preferably in the middle of crowd/area (?). Open app, enter your name for "username."
- At 12:30pm (?), turn on Sound_Level_Campaign program and record for 15 (or 10) minutes. With minimal disturbation of the phone, verify within the first minute or two that data queued is being uploaded.
